This is a concept design for an 870 square foot ADA compliant single story
house for the flood plains in New Orleans. The house is laid out as 2 masses offset from each other to optimize
square footage according to each individual spcial use. The kitchen,
bathrooms, and laundry are centered in the house dividing the
private space towards the rear of the house and the public space at the
front entrance. There is a front and rear entrance for access to the
yard space and deck. To allow for handicapped accessibility the house has a ramp
along the side yard. At the front and rear of the ramp there is deck
space for outdoor recreational use. The front of the house has tall
operable windows to allow for ventilation and sun light penetration into
the living dinning areas. The house
can be built with traditional wood framing built with flood resistant
methods. The space under the floor can be used for storage.
